Some of Matt & Shari’s favorite tips:
Use latex paint instead of oil-based paint. Latex is very durable and retains color depth longer, which means you won’t have to paint as often, saving time and money.
Use leftover paint for a long-forgotten closet, or even the garage. “Latex paints can be mixed together and will usually make a somewhat pleasing taupe color,” says Matt.
If you need to get rid of leftover paint, dispose of it properly. Most recycling programs ask that you allow the paint to dry. If you do woodworking, sawdust is a great way to dry paint. Kitty litter works fine also - old or new - the paint won’t know the difference.
Shari likes to use old clothing to slipcover old furniture. Use jeans on pillows; sturdy cotton fabrics or even flannel make comfy patchwork quilts.
Bored with a room’s look? Simply rearranging the room can add renewed interest. Try angling the furniture or pulling it away from the walls to create a fresh look.
